Our vision is to execute world-class cancer research within certain prioritised areas based on strong intradepartmental scientific track records, and to provide research expertise covering the most common cancer types that represents a health problem in Luxembourg. The department also represents a state-of-the art training ground for next generation cancer researchers in Luxembourg, -and acts as a reference point for cancer research at the national level.

The main mission of the Oncology Department is to achieve excellence through research that will have a strong impact on reducing the cancer burden within the Luxembourg population and beyond. Within prioritized areas, our aim is to develop excellence within basic, translational and clinical cancer research. This includes the implementation of a personalised medicine programme. The main activities of the department are focused on experimental cancer research with a strong translational research profile. Research activities focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of tumor progression using a wide range of state-of-the-art technologies, including genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic analyses, as well as in vitro and in vivo imaging modalities using state-of-the art animal models for cancer research.
